I have a passion for Business Process improvement. I consider that my role in any organisation or company is to investigate, gather business requirements, analyse, model business processes and implement. I specialise in BPMN to describe the business processes so that both the business and the technical staff can understand what is required. Although coming from an IT background, my BPM experience was gained over the last ten years through working for such diverse organisations as the United Nations, UK Ministry of Defence, European Commission organisations, European Patent Office, freight companies and web service companies. Working for these organisations has given me many years of international experience in Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Sweden, Italy, USA and the UK. I am the author of the following five books; - Insight Into Business Processes which is a guide to business processes for those who are seeking an understanding of the complex challenges of the 21st Century. - BPMN Pocket Reference which is a complete guide to the BPMN notations including a description of the elements and is use when modelling a business process diagram. - Business Process Modelling with BPMN is a course book for Modelling and Designing - Business Processes using the BPMN Specification Version 2.0. - Business Process Collaboration is a course book specifically written for those who are interested in extending their knowledge of business process modelling using BPMN. I have completed the book Complete and published BPMN Pocket Reference. The book includes the specification 2.0.2 changes and updates with many more diagrams, descriptions on the BPMN notations and how to use them. Specialties: I have developed Business Process training material for use in workshops and seminars. I also provide business process coaching and training. In my role as a Business Process Consultant I have provided business process coaching and training for various organisations.
I was responsible for the User Migration Process, accountable for the detailed design and documentation of the end to end user migration process and its continuous improvement based on the existing e2e. I was part of the User Migration Team working with all involved Service Managers and the related Third Parties to ensure the efficient processing of large volumes of user migrations with a maximum degree of automation and minimal manual interventions (maximizing the benefits of Bombardier's migration orchestration tool Juriba).
The first assignment was to model the existing annual reporting process with view to develop an improved process. For the second assignment I designed a more effective and efficient business process for project reporting, primarily for use by WFP donors. The process is designed to improve access to specific reports giving the user more flexibility and up to date information. The design includes a more efficient and flexible way to capture worldwide operation information with extensive editing and reviewing capabilities. The ability to produce specific analysis of data and to search for individual datasets has been included in the design capability. This was them subsequently approved by the business owner before developing the system requirements with use cases, system mock ups and implementation.
The aim of this project was to develop and implement a Document Management System using the MS SharePoint platform (MOSS). I documented all the requirements and supported the design of the MS SharePoint web interface. The second project was to gather requirements and create business process maps for the internal procedures of the mail room sorting and registration process.
The overall objective of this project was to enhance the experience of the conference participants by improving the registration processes at various levels. This included a review of the overall secretariat approach to participation at the operational levels, through the software development of an online registration mechanism. This introduced the mechanisms for enhancing the data timeliness and quality to the existing conference registration system.
The purpose of this project was to develop new process architecture with all the business processes for a new training organisation for the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD). As Senior Business Process Analyst, I was responsible for 4 Business Analysts who were mapping and modelling specific training delivery processes dependent on the process architecture including the target operating model. All processes were documented using Enterprise Architecture from Sparx Systems.
Office for Official Publications of the European Communities My role in this project was to analyse and produce a high level description of the main processes and sub-processes involved in the European Commission's annual budget process. This included gathering requirements and mapping the existing corporate budget planning process current situation "As Is", and subsequently modelling, using BPMN in MS Visio.
Southwark Facilities Management My first project was to investigate the existing situation and gather requirements to model improved processes for a new Integrated Service Desk solution. During this project the Service Desk call center operational processes were mapped based on ITIL processes and subsequently modeled using BPMN in MS Visio. My subsequent project was to develop and reengineer the existing postal processes to implement a new Central Post Room. I developed a postal transition plan to facilitate departmental post relocation. After analysing each department for their specific requirements, I documented the individual requirements and presented the analysis to management. I was involved in the technology selection for this process, in conjunction with HR. My final project was to develop new processes for condition surveys and planned maintenance using the "To-Be" operating model. These processes were implemented and used for operational data capture. The condition survey process took into account the data input procedure and the data mapping into a management database (Manhattan).
Joint Research Centre (JRC) My first project involved producing a high level description of all the main processes and sub-processes appertaining to the JRC annual budget planning. I gathered requirements and mapped the existing corporate budget planning process current situation "As Is", modelling the results using BPMN in MS Visio. I provided high level data mapping between the information requirements against available information, in the existing information system. The mandates for the second project was to work through the end to end procurement process and gather all requirements to map the existing process, subsequently modeling using BPMN in MS Visio. The JRC procurement requirements are governed by EC regulations, which were taken into consideration in the 'As-Is' and 'To-Be' operating model. During this project I developed procurement work streams and procedures for the individual institutes.
Data Flow Management My responsibilities included analysing the operational business processes with a view to streamlining the automated data handling. I analysed the existing situation and mapped the new overall business processes using the 'As Is' producing the 'To Be' target operating model and produced process documentation for management review. The existing processes were mapped and subsequently modeled using BPMN with MS Visio and MagicDraw.
London / Prague) Facilities Migration Project (Basel and London to Prague) My remit for professional services was to analysis the EDI software development operational business processes for DHL site relocation to Prague, and analyse the existing situation to produce improved business processes. I worked through end to end process analysis, from discovery through to the design of the convergence of three different software development processes. This was for the EDI customer software development, which was used by the supply chain management information system. Training Seminars, Workshops and Books I have developed Business Process training material for use in workshops and seminars. I also provide business process coaching and training. In my role as a Business Process Consultant I have provided business process coaching and training for various organisations. I have given 3 day courses to different organisations including training companies, on BPM and practical business process modelling using BPMN. I have written a book titled Insight Into Business Processes which is a guide to business processes for those who are seeking an understanding of the complex challenges of the 21st Century. The book gives a comprehensive overview and is a practical guide to business processes. It is written in an easily understandable format with clear and concise diagrams. I have written a further book titled BPMN Pocket Reference which is a complete guide to the BPMN notations including a description of the element and is use when modelling a business process diagram and examples. I have written Modelling Business Processes with BPMN to use as a course book in my Modelling with BPMN workshops. I have completed a further course book Business Process Collaboration specifically written for those who are interested in extending their knowledge of business process modelling. This book assumes the reader has a basic knowledge of business process modelling using BPMN specification version 2.0. This course book includes diagrams, descriptions and covers all aspects of business process collaboration. It also includes question time and student exercises with answers. After the success of the original BPMN Pocket Reference published in 2012 and due to the BPMN specification updates (2.0.2) it was time to review and revise the pocket book. I have now successfully completed the book Complete BPMN Pocket Reference and it has been published.
